  1. ---- How and why should I register MicroCook?
  2.  
  3.      If you like MicroCook and plan to use it past the 30 days
  4. evaluation period, you must register it. Registering MicroCook
  5. (or any other Shareware) is the only way you can legally use the
  6. program past this evaluation period. The Shareware principle is
  7. based on trust. If you like it and use it, you pay for it. Not
  8. too much to ask for? 
  9.  
  10.      Registered users of the MicroCook database program will
  11. receive a KEY file that also will keep future versions of
  12. MicroCook, both DOS & Windows, registered for several years  
  13. before it expire. At that time you'll have the option to upgrade
  14. for a small fee (less than full registration). See the 
  15. documentation included with the version that "expired" your KEY 
  16. file for details. Also unlimited technical support for as long as 
  17. you own a registered version of MicroCook. The KEY file will also 
  18. print your name, or the name of someone you give MicroCook to as 
  19. a gift, on the bottom line of the monitor screen. Un-registered 
  20. users that have questions during the evaluation period can
  21. contact me by mail, or on America On Line (TM), CompuServe (TM)
  22. or to norski@execpc.com on the Internet. And of course,
  23. registered users can also make use of these contacts.

  25.      When you register you will receive a small "KEY file" with
  26. the serial number and your name. Place this file in the SAME
  27. directory as MCOOK.EXE. Please keep a copy of the Key file in a
  28. safe place. This file is for YOU only, and must NOT be
  29. distributed with any copies you give to your friends or upload to
  30. BBS's (which you are encouraged to do). The KEY disables all the
  31. "Please Register!" messages and the time delayed opening and 
  32. exit screens so the program will start running without delay. I
  33. added these "features" as reminders to unregistered users, not to
  34. harass them. The unregistered version and the registered version 
  35. are identical in functions, except for these messages.
  36.      If your KEY file gets lost or damaged, send me a letter with
  37. an approximate date when you registered, to which name it was
  38. registered, and a check for $5.00 for handle shipping & handling. 
  39. I'll then mail you a disk back a copy of the KEY file. If you can
  40. receive the Serial and Control number via e-mail, a new number is
  41. FREE. But I won't change the name of the user:)

  43.      Also included with the registered copy of MicroCook are
  44. about 2,000 recipes, ready to be loaded into MicroCook. And just
  45. incase your hard disk mess up your recipe database, I have
  46. written a small program that will extract as many recipes as
  47. possible from the damaged MicroCook recipe database, and save
  48. them to a new database. MCDBFIX.EXE is another utility just for
  49. the registered user.

  51.      You can receive your Serial Number and Control number for
  52. the KEY file via e-mail if you have a e-mail address. I'll send
  53. it as e-mail as soon as either CompuServe or PsL notify me that
  54. you have registered, or as soon as I receive a check or money
  55. order from you. This will remove the "Please register" messages a
  56. little faster. Instructions on how to create the KEY file will be
  57. included in the e-mail.

  59.      If you have a lot of recipes in formats other than
  60. Meal-Master, MasterCook, or Edna's Cookbook that you would like
  61. to convert to MicroCook, please send an e-mail, call or write. I
  62. plan to add more conversions in the next version of MicroCook so
  63. I would like to learn more about the different PC cookbook
  64. formats that are in use. But please do NOT ask about QBOOK's
  65. ASCII recipes. It has a very free-form format, and is very hard
  66. to figure out correctly. I have gone through 100's of QBOOK
  67. recipes from various sources, and non are formatted the same way.

  69.      To register by mail, fill out the registration editor in
  70. MicroCook (Print menu), and print out the filled out form. You
  71. can also use the REGISTER program from the DOS prompt, or RUN it
  72. from Windows. Internet users with a credit card can also register
  73. at Albert's Ambry. See ALBERTS.TXT. CompuServe users can register
  74. through Software Registration (GO SWREG), see SWREG.TXT for
  75. details. And if your choice is credit card and you don't have
  76. Internet access, see the CREDIT.TXT file. These files can also be
  77. printed from MicroCook. You also need to use the REGISTER program
  78. to create the KEY file if you received it as e-mail.
